Protecting our waterways is near and dear to our heart, with our Harrisburg office located on the Susquehanna River. We’ve spent many hours fishing and kayaking just outside our office doors.
OUR PROJECT
In 2021, we introduced a GreenFX initiative to reduce ocean plastics by partnering with The Ocean Cleanup, which is a tech-focused ocean and river cleanup operation that uses AI-powered vacuums.
In the same way that we use AI to power our client results, these incredible machines use AI to clean plastic and garbage from waterways around the world.
How does the program work?
Every month, a team member is nominated by their department for exceptional work and a donation is made in their honor to The Ocean Cleanup. Collectively, contributions from the WebFX team are enough to offset plastic waste coming from three rivers closest to our offices: Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania and the Caloosahatchee and Alafia Rivers in Florida.
Our monthly award winners are even honored with traveling trophies crafted from ocean waste that has washed ashore in Africa.
What kind of impact will we make?
With our efforts, we've removed 207+ football fields of plastic from the ocean so far — allowing us to offset the plastic from local rivers, and then some. Long term, our partnership with The Ocean Cleanup will push toward their goal of ending plastic pollution in our waterways.

Since April 1, 2019
Cengkareng Drain project
The Cengkareng Drain project was one of The Ocean Cleanup’s first interceptor projects, beginning in April 2019. The project works to reduce plastic leaking into the ocean, coastal mangroves, and from getting stuck in water pumps to help prevent flooding.Â

Klang River project
The Klang River runs through Kuala Lumpur and is one of the 50 most polluted rivers in the world. The Ocean Cleanup uses two interceptors to remove waste from the river and aid Malaysia’s own cleanup efforts.

Rio Ozama project
The Rio Ozama project is located in Santo Domingo and uses one of The Ocean Cleanup’s first interceptors in the Caribbean. The interceptor works hard to remove large amounts of plastic and waste from Rio Ozama before it reaches the ocean.

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch project
The Great Pacific Garbage Patch project is The Ocean Cleanup’s first large-scale cleanup system. It’s been in transit since August 2023 and is heading to The Great Pacific Garbage Patch to harvest plastic from the North Pacific Ocean.

Can Tho River project
The Can Tho River project has been in operation since December 2021 on the Can Tho River, working to collect and remove plastic and waste flowing from the fourth largest city in Vietnam.

Kingston Harbour Project
The Kingston Harbour Project began in February 2022. The project aims to intercept and clean plastic from all around Kingston Harbour in Jamaica.

Ballona Creek project
Ballona Creek flows out to the Pacific Ocean next to Venice Beach and contains a large amount of plastic and waste. The Ocean Cleanup works to collect nearly 28,800 pounds of plastic per year from Ballona Creek before it flows out to the ocean.

Las Vacas River project
Guatemala’s rainy season brings flash floods that wash down large amounts of plastic and waste from Guatemala City and other surrounding areas. To stop and collect the waste and plastic, The Ocean Cleanup uses an interceptor located on the Las Vacas River in Guatemala City, their newest concept to intercept plastic in Guatemala.
