The Dos and Don’ts of Using AI
in WebFX’s Application and
Interview Process
At WebFX, we see the value in generative AI — but when it comes to hiring, what matters most is your authentic skills and personality. Here’s how to use AI responsibly throughout our application and interview process.
Acceptable uses of AI
- Reviewing your application materials for any potential spelling and grammar mistakes.
- Ensuring the tone of your written items comes off clear, organized, and professional.
- Structuring your resume or cover letter so that it’s polished, properly formatted, and consistent before submitting it.
Unacceptable uses of AI
- Generating a list of skills or experiences that you don’t have. We want to get to know the real you, and our process is built out to help us do that. If we have questions about the content you’ve shared with us, and it isn’t reflective of your true skills, this could make answering future interview questions more challenging.
- Using unethical AI tools to mass or spam apply to multiple positions.
- AI-generated responses that you’ve copied and pasted on your application materials. Our team reviews thousands of applications each week; stand out from the crowd by ensuring yours is unique and captures your voice as best as possible.
Acceptable uses of AI
- Researching WebFX to better understand our industry and the work we do.
- Preparing for your interview by looking for questions that you might be asked.
- Practicing your responses to build confidence in your communication skills (though practicing too much can sometimes come across as rehearsed, so be mindful of this when going into your interview).
- Coming up with questions to ask your interviewer when given the opportunity.
Unacceptable uses of AI
- Using AI to complete any tests, assessments, or trial projects that you’re asked to do.
- Using AI tools, scripts, or real-time agents to assist you in any interviews, whether in-person or virtual.
- Using AI avatars and/or voice generation tools to deceive interviewers by pretending to be someone else.
- Passing AI-generated answers off as your own on written interviews, forms, etc.
Job Postings
AI is used to help hone our job descriptions from a formatting and grammar perspective only.
Application Review
We use AI to match candidates’ skills to those listed in our job descriptions and requirements, but every single application is human-verified and reviewed before a decision is made.
Written Interview and Assessments
We use AI to ensure you did not by running all submitted written interviews and assessments through a tool that detects and flags AI usage.
Interviews
As we prepare for interviews, we will occasionally use AI to help us generate questions to ensure we ask the right ones to help us get to know you best.
Hiring
AI makes it easier for our team (of human recruiters and leaders) to compile all the information we gather during the interview process on a candidate through interviews and assessments, allowing us to make informed decisions regarding next steps in our interview process and hiring by compiling all of the information in one central location. We do not and will not use AI to make those decisions for us.
