For a service contractor like your business, having a field service management (FSM) platform is more or less essential. FSM platforms allow you to easily track all your business data and tasks in one location, whether you’re in the office or out in the field.
But in looking for an FSM, you’ve likely encountered several big names, with two of the most prominent ones being Housecall Pro and ServiceTitan. Maybe you’re torn between these two platforms, wondering which one is better.
That’s why, on this page, we’ll be doing a ServiceTitan vs. Housecall Pro comparison. We’ll look at how the two stack up in several different areas, and then we’ll return to the question of which one is best.
ServiceTitan and Housecall Pro comparison
In the ServiceTitan vs. Housecall Pro battle, it’s hard to see which is better at a glance. To figure it out, we’ll need to compare specific aspects of each tool. In particular, we’ll look at the following areas:
Here’s a summary of how the tools compare on all of those things:
ServiceTitan | Housecall Pro | |
Intended user | Large enterprises | Small businesses |
Features | Wider range of features | Smaller range of features |
Integrations | Good integration capabilities | Struggles with some integrations |
Reporting | Solid reporting all around | Mostly solid reporting, but sales reporting is weak |
Ease of use | Very intuitive interface, but number of features can be overwhelming | Reasonably intuitive interface |
Customer support | Medium-poor customer support | Medium-poor customer support |
Pricing | Custom pricing (rumored to start at $398 per month) | Pricing starts at $59 per month |
A more detailed ServiceTitan and Housecall Pro comparison is below.
1. Intended user
The first difference to be aware of between Housecall Pro and ServiceTitan is that ServiceTitan is aimed more at large enterprises, while Housecall Pro is focused more on smaller businesses.
That’s not to say that small businesses can’t use ServiceTitan, or that enterprises can’t use Housecall. It’s just that those respective businesses might not get as much benefit from the tool that isn’t optimized for them.
Neither tool “wins” in this category — it’s simply important to be aware that they’re geared toward different businesses.
2. Features
Both Housecall Pro and ServiceTitan have plenty of features, and there’s actually not much deviation between the two on the big stuff. They both share the same primary capabilities, such as:
- Marketing automation
- Scheduling
- Accounting
- And more!
ServiceTitan does offer a wider range of features than Housecall Pro does, such as their customer outreach feature that lets you text customers directly through the tool and give them access to your location. That goes back to what we already established about ServiceTitan being geared toward larger businesses.
That makes ServiceTitan the winner here if you want more features, but of course, not every business does. You may want something simple, in which case Housecall might be better.
3. Integrations
Most FSM platforms need to integrate with other business tools to correctly gather and distribute data. That’s true of ServiceTitan and Housecall Pro as well, but one of them definitely does it better than the other.
For the most part, the two tools are both adequate at integrating with other tools. However, many people report that Housecall Pro gives them issues when they try to integrate with certain tools, most notably Quickbooks. That means ServiceTitan comes out on top here.
4. Reporting
Reporting is a big part of running a business. Looking back at data from past jobs, sales, and marketing campaigns can help you identify patterns that you can learn from going forward.
ServiceTitan and Housecall both have some basic reporting features, compiling metrics about different aspects of your business that can help you grow. ServiceTitan even lets you customize a dashboard with the specific metrics you want to see.
Between the two tools, though, Housecall’s reporting features are weaker. Some users say they wish it had better sales reporting capabilities. So, this category marks another win for ServiceTitan.
5. Ease of use
When you adopt a new digital tool — especially one that will be as central to your business as an FSM platform — you want it to be easy to use. A tool that’s hard to navigate will just make you miserable in the long term. So, how do these two tools stack up in this regard?
First, the good news — neither tool is a nightmare to work with. Both of them are reasonably easy to navigate, which is great. But which is better? Well, that’s complicated.
ServiceTitan’s interface is a little more intuitive, which is a win. But at the same time, as we’ve already covered, ServiceTitan also has a lot more features, which can make it feel more overwhelming when you’re trying to learn the ins and outs of the tool.
Overall, maybe it’s best to label this one as a tie.
6. Customer support
Ease of use could be considered a win for both tools, but customer support is precisely the opposite. In truth, neither ServiceTitan nor Housecall Pro are known for good customer service. A lot of the biggest complaints about both tools come in this category, with users saying that the support team is profoundly unhelpful.
So, this one marks another tie — although not the positive kind.
7. Pricing
ServiceTitan has had a few wins so far, but this is where Housecall Pro is the clear choice. The pricing difference between the two tools is immense. Housecall Pro’s starting price is $59 per month, although there are a couple of other tiers above that.
ServiceTitan doesn’t disclose its pricing online — you have to get a custom quote. However, various (unverified) sources online have said that its starting price is $398 per month. Needless to say, that’s way more expensive than Housecall Pro, giving Housecall Pro the win in this category.
ServiceTitan vs. Housecall Pro: Which is better?
So, which tool is better — ServiceTitan or Housecall Pro?
If you were to just tally up the “points” from the ServiceTitan and Housecall Pro comparison above, ServiceTitan would seem to be the winner. But it’s not that simple. You have to make your decision based on which tool is ideal for your business, which means considering your unique needs.
ServiceTitan might be better for you if any of the following are true:
- You run a large enterprise
- You have a large budget
- You want a lot of features
- You want to integrate Quickbooks
On the other hand, Housecall might be ideal if you identify with any of the following:
- You have a small budget
- Your business isn’t very large
- You aren’t interested in a lot of features
Ultimately, you’ll have to choose based on your business needs. You may even find that you want to choose a different platform entirely.
