Quick review: Working as a WebFX copywriter

Best for: Writers who want structured growth, feedback, and long-term skill development

Challenging for: People who dislike revision cycles or accountability

Training and support: High

Independence: Moderate–high

Growth potential: Strong

You’re probably reading this because you’re wondering if a copywriting role at WebFX is really for you, and you want an honest WebFX copywriter review from someone who’s actually lived it. So what’s the job actually like here? How do you grow? What does feedback feel like?

Whether you’ll like it or not depends on your mindset, lifestyle, and the skills already within your inventory. I’ve been working with WebFX for two and a half years now, first as a client-facing copywriter and then as an editor and content writer for WebFX’s official website.

That’s why I’m giving you a look behind the curtains of what copywriting and editing at WebFX has looked like for me. Today, I’ll give you firsthand, insider knowledge of my journey as a WebFX copywriter and editor, from expectations vs. reality to the day-to-day and my growth over the past few years.

Starting at WebFX: Expectations vs. reality

Before I started working at WebFX as a copywriter, I had a pretty clear idea of what the job would look like, and I was wrong in the best way. Here, I’ll break down what I expected going in, what actually happened once I started, and what your first few months can realistically look like.

What I expected before joining

When I received the call that I was accepted, I was truly ecstatic. If you’re an entry-level copywriter, you know what I mean.

In any career and industry, companies can be wary of hiring writers who are newer to agency work. It’s part of why I freelanced first. I wanted to build up proof that I could research, write, and hit deadlines before I could apply to companies.

Little did I know, WebFX hires writers from a range of backgrounds and leans into training and coaching to help people grow into exceptional careers.

Because this was a remote copywriting job experience, as I prepared for the role, I expected to be given my share of projects and start writing, with minimal interaction with co-workers.

What surprised me (in the best way)

The reality was genuinely different from anything I could have pictured.

Onboarding was smooth on the logistics side. My work equipment arrived at my house before day one, and my accounts were ready to go when I started.

There was a welcome get-together with my co-workers called a “New hire hangout.” It felt like a virtual welcome party where you meet real people with real personalities, not just job titles in Slack.

What stood out immediately was how intentional the support was. I was promised guidance, feedback, and space to grow without feeling judged. I didn’t feel pressure to “prove” myself by being perfect in month one.

Two phrases stuck with me early on: “You were hired for a reason,” and “Your only competition here is yourself. No one else.” These were the words my coach and the WebFX happiness manager shared with me. That tone matters because it shapes how you handle feedback and how willing you are to stretch.

Then there was “Bootcamp,” a training program where I worked through internal documents, videos, and articles that taught me how WebFX approaches writing, quality, and the general work culture. I also had moments where I met with specialists one-on-one, which accelerated the learning.

What the first 120 days look like

Your first week starts with new-hire meetings that introduce you to the people you’ll work with most and explain what success looks like in your role.

For your first 30 days, you’ll mainly focus on your Bootcamp program. Bootcamp and your hands-on training during the first 120 days are a core part of your growth at WebFX.

During Bootcamp, you can start taking on real projects in smaller, supported chunks — the kind where your work still ships and drives impact, allowing you to build rhythm through repetition. Once you’re more comfortable, you and your coach typically align on goals to work toward across the month or quarter.

What the day-to-day is really like

First, I want to clarify that WebFX has varying copywriter roles. For example, you can be a copywriter or editor on the client-facing team, writing and editing for various clients and industries. Or you can write and edit for WebFX’s official website to help attract more clients.

If you want a closer look at the WebFX writing job experience, here’s what my day-to-day looks like now as someone who writes and edits for our official site. You’ll also see a few words from our other writers and editors to help you understand the perspectives from the different roles here at WebFX.

How work is structured

Most days, my work falls into a few predictable buckets:

  • Writing assignments: This includes researching, outlining, drafting, and proofreading before submission.
  • Editing assignments: Reviewing other writers’ work for clarity, intent match, structure, and polish.
  • Collaboration: This involves connecting with project managers (PMs) or teammates when something needs alignment.
  • Skill-building: This involves industry readings, training, and tightening the parts of my process that could be improved.

When I’m writing, I’m responsible for conducting research, aligning search intent, and making the piece easy to understand. Once I submit, the editing team reviews the work and pushes it further. This is where I learned the most about copywriting and editing as a combined skill set.

When I’m editing, the workflow is faster, but the thinking is deeper. You’re diagnosing what’s holding the content back and deciding the cleanest way to fix it without rewriting the author’s voice into something unrecognizable.

Some mornings, I’ll start by reading industry news in digital marketing or copywriting. That habit keeps your writing current and gives you more examples of what “good” looks like right now.

Aside from lunch, short breaks are encouraged. A quick walk or reset sounds small, but it’s one of those habits that protects your attention (and your tone) across a full day of writing.

Here’s an inside look at the day-to-day for client-facing copywriters, client-facing editors, and non-client-facing WebFX marketing writers.

“For just under three years, I’ve written longform copy for clients in a variety of industries, from security to finance, product development, international relations and ecommerce. This means research and accuracy are my top priorities in every project. My schedule includes different types of projects too, such as content briefs, video scripts, SEO blogs, and brand voice. I’ve even gotten to help out with sales copy a few times. I really enjoy working with clients who have a strong brand voice. It lets me sink into their mindset, show their authority on a subject, and deliver really impactful information.

One of the things I love most about WebFX is how our days are structured with ample balance. I know which projects are on my schedule every day, which lets me channel the different workflows I need to stay organized and efficient. Generally each project starts with research, an outline, writing the draft, and proofreading — with help from our AI tools.

Every project teaches me new skills, and I try to implement new techniques I’ve picked up from our digital library — this is so fulfilling. I get to do what I love, grow in my craft, and deliver content that will be helpful to people. I’ve had the opportunity to learn new writing styles and dive into personal growth opportunities, all with the support of a coach who is invested in helping me exceed my own expectations.”

“My story at WebFX is a little different. Back in 2017, I was one of the very first copywriters added to the Copy Squad. I loved the flexibility this position offered, especially since I became a first-time mom in 2018. But life took me in a different direction, and I left the team for a couple of years. When I was ready to return, the Copy Squad welcomed me back with open arms.

My new Copy PM set me up with Bootcamp, and I was amazed at how far this new writer training had come since my early years. I’m now approaching my second anniversary since returning and almost nine years since my journey began at WebFX. I wake up early and start my day with exciting projects that range from fun blogs about winter camping to technical pieces that stretch my abilities. Thankfully, my leaders on the Copy Squad have armed me to take on any writing task that comes my way, from web copy to product descriptions.

Some of the top industries I work with include healthcare, finance, law firms, and service-based companies. I love how the act of research and outlining helps me feel in sync with their industries, even if it’s a professional sector I’ve barely heard of. I then draft my content and work through revisions, getting the project just right before sending it off for editing. I feel totally equipped to manage multiple projects, armed with the Copy Squad tools I use to deliver meaningful content. I love WebFX because of the people I work with, the work-life balance that allows me to be a professional writer and full-time mom, and the ability to stretch and grow my abilities.”

“I edit content for WebFX’s clients, and I’ve been happily working here for about two and a half years. My daily tasks include checking our content for accuracy, client note adherence, clarity, and overall quality. I edit content for a wide range of industries, including medical, home services, manufacturing, and technology. My favorite one is medical! My primary goal is to support our amazing writers and ensure our clients get amazing copy.

My morning usually starts with lining up my projects for the day, tackling high-priority ones first. I also handle some small admin tasks before diving into my editing. As I start editing a project, I check for big-picture elements first, like accuracy, keyword integration, Copyscape hits, and overall structure to ensure we have the correct information. Then, I dig into the finer details, such as repetition, grammar, specificity, and client note adherence. I typically collaborate with project managers on project threads and writers through our feedback log.

I aim to make my feedback as actionable as possible, always referring back to our Page Quality and Needs Met criteria without leaving a massive novel for our writers to work through — I aim for short and sweet. One of my most significant growth areas has been confidently sending constructive feedback and revision suggestions to writers. I’ve also gotten better at using my best judgment to make editorial calls, especially when deadlines are tight.”

“I’ve been with WebFX for about four years now. My role is a non-client-facing one. I spend most of my days writing new content for WebFX (and sometimes its property sites SEO.com and TeamAI). I also update existing pages to keep the content fresh, up-to-date, and helpful for our customers.

It’s always a pleasure collaborating with anyone at WebFX. I typically work closely with our editors who help me improve what I’ve written and give me valuable tips for my next assignments. I also get to work with team members from other departments to get quotable expert insights for the articles we put out on the website.

WebFX provides growth opportunities in several ways. Aside from access to ebooks and learning courses that help us grow professionally and personally, writers are assigned a variety of familiar and foreign topics — gently nudging us out of our comfort zone into a place of growth.”

Balance of independence and guidance

Most days, I work independently. You get real focus time, which is essential if you care about doing high-quality work.

At the same time, help is not “locked behind a hierarchy.” If you need support, you can reach out to your team lead or coach, jump into a quick meeting, or send a message with context and get guidance.

That balance is one of the reasons my copywriting journey didn’t stall. I could own my work while still learning from people who were already excellent at it.

How feedback works (and why it actually helps you grow)

The feedback loop is one of the biggest growth multipliers at WebFX, and it’s central to what it’s like to be a WebFX copywriter in practice.

Editors will call out what you’re doing very well and specific areas to improve. That could be accuracy, structure, intent match, formatting, or natural keyword insertion. Most importantly, the feedback you receive will always be actionable.

Over the past two and a half years, the feedback I’ve received has improved my fact-checking habits, strengthened my SEO writing skills, and sharpened my formatting and structure. If you’re serious about becoming a copywriter and editor, you want this kind of environment — one where you’re challenged, supported, and coached toward a higher bar.

How I’ve grown as a writer and editor

If you’re wondering whether this kind of role actually builds long-term career momentum, this is the part you’ll care most about. I’m going to walk you through the specific skills I sharpened here, how my responsibilities evolved over time, and the kinds of opportunities that helped me stretch into editing.

When I joined, I started as a versatile copywriter, writing for numerous clients. During this time, I realized I had a knack for simplifying complex ideas. My leaders noticed it too, and they helped me sharpen it into a reliable strength.

By my second year, I became more specialized, with dedicated, high-priority client projects that needed that reliable strength.

Beyond that, I developed:

  • Stronger critical thinking to spot what matters, what doesn’t, and what needs proof
  • Better time management because volume and quality only work with a real system
  • More confidence in sharing ideas because collaboration is part of the job, not an extra
  • More confidence in myself as a writer and editor because support makes growth sustainable

Now, in my third year, I transitioned into an editor position. That means I still write content, but I also edit other team members’ work and help shape what “great” looks like across the team.

Opportunities to stretch, specialize, or take on more responsibility

One thing WebFX does well is create multiple paths for growth. You can deepen your expertise, broaden your skills, or step into more leadership-adjacent work over time.

For instance, not everyone would want the path I went down. Maybe your goal is to grow into a specialized copywriter or shape quality sales content for clients. WebFX makes those paths possible for you based on your passion and quality of work.

For example, WebFX provides ongoing learning opportunities, a library of over 1,200 books, training programs, and guest speakers to help you lean into your passion.

In my case, one of the biggest “stretch” moments was moving into editing and contributing to the evolution of our editing guidelines and workflows as we transitioned to incorporating AI.

“Writing data stories and being given the chance to write copy for our sales team are some of the opportunities I’m grateful for, and I had the full support of my coach and teammates throughout.

Because the culture at WebFX is positive and supportive, I’ve learned that daunting new tasks and projects are also just chances to stretch. I used to be very calculating before saying yes to new projects, but because I know I’ll be supported, I can ask questions, and it’s always a healthy collaboration, I’ve started looking at new responsibilities as learning opportunities.”

The support behind the scenes

A lot of companies talk about “support,” but it’s not always clear what that means day to day. Here’s what support looks like at WebFX in practice — the people you lean on, the meetings that keep you progressing, and the collaboration that makes this a team sport (even when you work independently).

Editors, teammates, and leadership support

Your coach, teammates, editors, and team lead aren’t background characters. They’re the system that makes fast, healthy growth possible.

When you do well, people notice and celebrate it. When you struggle, the response isn’t blame or complaints. It’s support, learning, and finding solutions with your team.

That’s not an accident. It’s part of the culture WebFX builds intentionally.

Coaching, check-ins, and knowledge sharing

There are a few meeting types that shape your growth rhythm:

  • Coaching meetups where you learn the ropes and get a safe space for questions
  • Check-ins where you talk through goals, progress, and blockers
  • Team meetings where tips are shared and quarterly goals are reinforced
  • Department-wide learning sessions where team members teach both soft and hard skills

This matters because talent doesn’t grow in isolation. It grows in repetition and reflection combined, and these touchpoints encourage both.

How collaboration shows up in practice

Collaboration happens in practical, everyday ways.

Sometimes it’s editor-to-writer, working through what needs adjustment to make a piece clearer or more valuable. Other times it’s writer-to-writer, swapping ideas on a tricky topic or aligning on how to approach a specific client.

You might also collaborate across departments or teams, such as asking design for graphic options that strengthen an article or working with strategists to ensure the content aligns with performance goals.

Who thrives on the WebFX copy team

This role can be a great fit, but only if you actually like the environment you’re stepping into. In this part of my WebFX copywriter role review, we’ll look at the types of writers and editors who tend to thrive at WebFX, what mindset helps you grow fastest here, and how our values show up in the work.

Not everyone wants the same environment, so I’ll be honest about what WebFX optimizes for.

This is a place where you’ll be supported, but you’ll also be expected to grow, apply feedback, and take ownership. If you want a team that’s positive, encouraging, and focused on solutions, you’ll feel supported here.

And if you want growth you can actually track, you’ll get it through clear expectations, regular check-ins, and feedback you can apply to your very next draft.

Traits of writers and editors who do well here

People who thrive here usually share a few traits:

  • They’re eager to learn and treat feedback like fuel.
  • They want a long-term career, not a quick stop.
  • They care about doing right by clients and teammates.
  • They follow through, communicate clearly, and take responsibility for outcomes.
  • They bring a positive, steady energy to collaborative work.

The mindset that leads to success (POSITIVE)

WebFX’s values are captured in its POSITIVE code:

  • Personal best: You aim to improve your own performance, not compete with co-workers.
  • Opportunity: You lead with solutions and adapt when things change.
  • Success: You put yourself in the client’s shoes and measure success by impact.
  • Integrity: You do the right thing even when it’s inconvenient.
  • Tenacious: You stay productive and push through challenges.
  • Impact: You focus on tangible results, not busywork.
  • Value: You keep refining your work and strive to be 1% better every day.
  • Embrace: You embrace challenges with a growth mindset.

Advice for applying to WebFX as a copywriter

If a WebFX copy role is on your shortlist, here’s what will help you prepare for the hiring process, what tends to help candidates stand out (especially if you’re early in your career), and what I’d tell my past self before applying.

How the hiring process works

The hiring steps can vary a bit depending on the role and your location, but WebFX generally follows a structured, step-by-step process designed to help both sides confirm fit — for the team, and for your long-term career goals.

This could generally include a few conversations that allow the talent acquisition team to learn more about your background, goals, and what you’re looking for.

Depending on the role, you may also expect a low-pressure skills and personality assessment that lets you showcase your strengths.

If you’re applying, it’s worth reading more about the WebFX hiring process so you can prep with confidence and ask better questions.

How to stand out as a candidate

If you have direct experience, describe it in detail. Explain what you edited, what standards you followed, and what outcomes you helped support.

If you’re newer to agency work, you can still stand out by showing how you think and how you approach research, clarity, and deadlines. Talk about the skills you gained in higher education and highlight projects that prove you can research, write clearly, apply feedback, and hit deadlines.

Also, let your personality show. Be honest about what you’re looking for as an aspiring copywriter or editor. WebFX cares about authenticity.

Before applying, I recommend reading our WebFX applicant insider tips and FAQs to understand more about how the team thinks about fit and what helps candidates stand out.

What I’d tell my past self before applying

Believe in yourself sooner.

Also, do your homework — not to perform, but to choose wisely. Read a few WebFX company articles (like you’re doing now) so you can walk into interviews knowing what the culture values and whether you want that environment.

Why the role is worth considering if you want to grow

If you value growth, this is the kind of place where you can feel yourself getting better in real time.

You’ll have training, feedback, and a culture that expects growth — which is exactly what you want if your goal is to build a long-term career in copywriting and editing.

Here’s some advice from one of our PMs, Paige, who started as a client-facing copywriter at WebFX, and some more advice from Macy, who has a history of editing and writing in the WebFX content team.

“I’ve been with WebFX for 3 and a half years now, both in a copywriting role and the copy PM position! Growth comes naturally at WebFX. From day one, I had the support I needed from my coach to understand the foundation of my role and how my skills could evolve to adapt to the industry’s quality standards. While my background in marketing and writing opened the door to copywriting, it was my passion for learning that stood out once the team was searching for a new Copy PM in our Harrisburg HQ office!

Now, as I coach my own team of writers, I actively seek and cultivate that same drive. I’ve seen firsthand how a commitment to learning can swiftly transform potential into exceptional performance within our Copy Squad. In a fast-paced field like digital marketing, while strong writing skills are essential, true success and professional distinction belong to the avid learners. They are the ones who not only adapt but also innovate, ensuring both personal growth and outstanding results for our clients.

For anyone interested in becoming a WebFX copywriter or editor, you can stand out by adopting a culture of sharing SEO insights, challenging conventional approaches to content creation, and staying ahead of evolving search engine algorithms.”

Macy S. Content Marketing Consultant (Harrisburg, PA)

“I started with WebFX in 2017 as a content writer. As time went on, I went from being the person who took advice to improve my content, to someone who was giving advice to others to help improve their content.

If you’re thinking about writing content at WebFX, you need to be able to take feedback and not take it personally. The best writers I worked with saw every piece of feedback as a learning opportunity to improve their writing. When you’re open to taking advice from those who were doing your exact job, the growth opportunities are endless! Your writing will evolve and get better to the point where you’ll look at one of the first pieces you wrote and say, ‘I can’t believe this was written by me!’

But that growth doesn’t happen without editors who are nurturing and supportive. If you’re stepping into an editing role, you need to be able to give feedback that’s constructive, not critical. It’s your job as an editor to build confidence in your writers through this feedback, so they feel encouraged and inspired, and not discouraged and frustrated. Editors play a crucial role in developing better writers, and it can be so incredibly rewarding to watch your writers grow and continually get better at their craft!”

Why I’m glad I’m here

At the end of the day, career growth is only part of the story. Here is my honest reflection on why I’m grateful I joined WebFX, what keeps me motivated now, and why I still feel excited about where this path can go.

In my two and a half years here, I’ve grown in countless ways. The common thread has been supportive people, clear standards, and consistent chances to stretch.

What keeps me excited is progress you can actually feel. New quarterly goals, better systems, stronger writing instincts, and the satisfaction of shipping work you’re proud to attach your name to.

If you’re looking for a place to build skills, grow confidence, and keep leveling up, my journey as a copywriter and editor has convinced me that WebFX is a strong place to do it.

FAQ: Becoming a WebFX copywriter and editor

Do I need agency experience to work as a copywriter at WebFX?

No, you generally won’t need prior agency experience to apply for many WebFX copywriting roles. WebFX provides structured onboarding and training with subject-matter experts to fill that gap.

WebFX mainly cares about your mindset, such as whether you have a willingness to grow, accountability, and curiosity. Otherwise, WebFX will teach you the skills needed for the role. But, of course, having agency experience might make you more qualified for the role.

What kind of training and learning opportunities does WebFX provide?

WebFX offers several role-specific learning opportunities, including:

  • Ongoing learning programs and internal workshops
  • Professional development sessions
  • Coaching from experienced subject-matter experts
  • Learning library of over 1,200 books
  • Frequent feedback to support growth

What does Bootcamp cover?

WebFX’s 120-Day Bootcamp program includes hands-on training, 1-on-1 training with industry experts, and independent learning activities. It covers a range of topics, including:

  • WebFX values
  • Writing and editing style guidelines
  • WebFX policies
  • Process information
  • The teaching of hard and soft skills

Can I apply to multiple roles?

Yes, WebFX’s hiring process is designed to help match candidates to roles that align with their strengths and goals. Once the hiring team knows more about you and what you want, they’ll present the different options to you.

What kinds of writing or editing will I do?

The writing or editing you do will depend on the role the hiring team deems best suited to your goals. Generally, WebFX offers the chance for copywriters to write or edit some of the following copy types:

  • Long-form content, such as informational pages and blog posts
  • Short-form content, such as website sales copy, email newsletter content, and social media content

What is it really like to work as a copywriter at WebFX?

WebFX is a supportive, structured environment where you get to build effective writing skills quickly. Most of your time goes toward research, writing, and refining your work, but you’re not figuring it out on your own. You’ll have clear standards, helpful feedback, and people you can reach out to when you need a second set of eyes.

If you enjoy learning, improving draft by draft, and seeing your writing get stronger over time, WebFX can be a really rewarding place to grow. And if you’re newer to agency work, that structure often makes the transition feel less overwhelming. That’s because you always know what “good” looks like and what to focus on next.

Is WebFX a good place for copywriters who are newer to agency work?

It can be, especially if you want training, coaching, and a clear bar for what “good” looks like. WebFX’s hiring process is designed to be structured and consistent for its specific roles, with onboarding and training built in.

That said, success when you’re newer to agency work usually comes down to mindset — can you take feedback, stay curious, and build systems for quality and meeting deadlines?

How much feedback do WebFX copywriters get (and what is it like)?

You can expect frequent, actionable feedback that tells you what to adjust and why, not just “this isn’t right.” The upside is you improve fast by gaining research habits, structure, clarity, SEO instincts, and decision-making through the feedback you get.

What kind of career growth can copywriters expect at WebFX?

Growth usually shows up in a few ways, such as stronger ownership of higher-priority projects, specialization in certain industries or content types, and opportunities to expand into editing or leadership-adjacent responsibilities over time.

WebFX frames hiring as finding the best fit together, which often extends into how roles evolve as your strengths become clearer.

Where does WebFX hire copywriters from?

WebFX hires in the U.S. and also recruits globally, including locations like South Africa, the Philippines, and the UK. Availability typically varies, so it’s recommended to view open U.S. roles or international roles to see whether applications are open in your location right now.
