Tell us a bit about your role at WebFX. What do you do? What does a typical day in the life look like for you?

I’m a coach for one of our amazing strategy teams who work behind the scenes, focusing on data analysis, crafting top tier strategies and executing them for clients! My typical day revolves around supporting team members’ day to day, whether that’s answering questions, helping with strategies, or just overall being there for the team and setting goals for ourselves to get 1% better!

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

An EMT or veterinarian!

Did you set out to be a marketer once you got out of school? What about marketing appealed to you?

Marketing wasn’t the initial plan, but I was introduced to it at my first job where I did various types of marketing (email, social media, print marketing, etc.). I wanted to specialize more in one area, specifically with digital marketing. I loved the idea of building brands and businesses through marketing by crafting consistent messaging and strategies to raise more awareness. And, of course, being able to see the direct impact of all of that through the data tools we have at our fingertips!

What initially drew you to WebFX? Did something in particular stick out for you?

I didn’t hear of WebFX until I was job searching in 2021 and came across their job postings on LinkedIn. After my first few interviews, I was just blown away at the people I interacted with during that process. It was unlike any other hiring process, and you could tell they carefully select those they think will make a significant impact at the company. I loved that and when I started on my first day, it was confirmed I chose the right place to work – a Best Place to Work in PA!

What’s something you love about working at WebFX?

Gee, where do I start? I’d have to say the people for one. Everyone is amazing and down to earth here — they’re genuinely invested in your career and personal growth.

I also love the work-life balance and the flexible options we have at the company — I never feel stressed about not making personal life events because of work, and that’s because WebFX cares about our work-life balance.

Lastly, the opportunity to learn and grow is tremendous — if you have a growth mindset and love learning, this is the place to be and WebFX will help you flourish!

How would you say you’ve grown personally and professionally while working at WebFX?

I used to be SO afraid of failure, I’d almost avoid it because I didn’t want to look like I didn’t know what I was doing or talking about. After working with my leaders, I found that WebFX doesn’t look for perfection, but instead they encourage you to #DoItAfraid and have a growth mindset. This helped me in so many ways, and I learned to just do it (Nike was onto something).

What advice do you have for aspiring digital marketing professionals and those who think they want to get into marketing?

Be ready to learn continuously, stay curious, have a growth mindset, and don’t be afraid to test new things! Find your niche and step on the gas!

BONUS: What’s your go-to coffee order?

A Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew — iced coffees all year round because starting the day with one feels like a mini ice bath for your soul (refreshing and a little jarring, in the best way). The sweet cream? That’s my daily reminder to keep things light and sweet, even when marketing throws us curveballs (looking at you, algorithm updates). It’s the perfect balance of smooth and bold — just like the blend of creativity and strategy that keeps marketing exciting each day!

Julia Hamill Internet Marketing Team Lead

FIRST JOB: Chuck E. Cheese Party Hostess

Learn about Julia’s career journey!

Tell us a bit about your role at WebFX. What do you do? What does a typical day in the life look like for you?

I’m a coach for our internet marketing department. I get to work alongside my team to solve problems, develop new digital strategies for clients, and give them the tools and resources they need to continue growing in their careers! A typical day in the life looks like organizing team events, joining calls with clients and team members regarding our current digital efforts, and helping my team navigate obstacles!

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was really young, I wanted to be a ballerina! When I got a little older, I wanted to go into wedding planning!

Did you set out to be a marketer once you got out of school? What about marketing appealed to you?

I did! I had an internship that was essentially marketing for a non-profit organization. I really liked how versatile marketing can be and how creative you get to be with it, and knew this was what I saw myself doing once I graduated!

What initially drew you to WebFX? Did something in particular stick out for you?

If I’m being honest, WebFX looked too good to be true when I first found out about them! I thought, “There is just no way a company this cool is so close to my hometown and has job opportunities that I would be a great fit for.” Through social media platforms and the website, it was so clear how much WebFX cares about the success of both their clients and their team members. That really stood out to me! In my job search, it was important for me to work for a company and have a job that I was proud of, and WebFX checked all the boxes for me!

What’s something you love about working at WebFX?

I love getting to work alongside people who are so passionate about their work! Everyone here is so bright, and I love that we all have unique skills and abilities to bring to the table, making it possible to have such a rock-solid team of digital marketers. Everyone at WebFX is so willing to share their knowledge and help others grow in their role!

How would you say you’ve grown personally and professionally while working at WebFX?

I’ve grown SO much, both personally and professionally, since working at WebFX! On the personal side, I can tell that I’ve gained so much confidence, and I’m always looking for ways to get 1% better at everything I do!

Professionally, I’ve grown a lot when it comes to problem-solving. Not every answer is black and white, so learning how to not only navigate in the gray, but thrive in the gray has been challenging, but so rewarding! I love working with my team to come up with custom solutions, no matter what obstacles come our way!

What advice do you have for aspiring digital marketing professionals and those who think they want to get into marketing?

My biggest piece of advice is to stay up-to-date with the industry and find your passion! Since digital marketing is always changing, staying updated on the latest best practices, trends, and algorithm updates ensures our strategies will have the most impact.

If you are looking to get into digital marketing, finding what you’re most passionate about is really important! There are so many areas of digital marketing — from content creation to technical work — so finding what you are most passionate about can help you excel in that area!

BONUS: If you went to Hogwarts, what house do you think you’d be sorted into and why?

This is a tough one! I think I’d be a Hufflepuff! Loyalty means a lot to me, and I always try my best to see all sides of a situation to make a fair judgment. (And let’s be real, a badger is by far the best mascot!)

DataTech & Specialty Services

sandi
Sandi Emery Sr. Dir., DataTech & Specialty

SCHOOL: Bloomsburg University

AREA OF STUDY: Marketing, Fine Arts & Graphic Design

FIRST JOB: Hoss’s Steak and Seafood Waitress

Learn about Sandi’s career journey!

Tell us a bit about your role at WebFX. What do you do? What does a typical day in the life look like for you?

I’m on our leadership team here at WebFX and I oversee our DataTech and Specialty departments! I get to wear a lot of different hats in this role, mainly focusing on operations, performance, and strategy to drive our specialized services forward for our clients.

In my day to day, you’ll find me digging into our client delivery for trends, finding obstacles and cutting red tape, coming up with systems and strategies to improve our teams’ performance, celebrating wins on the team, working cross-departmentally to make things happen, and mentoring my team and providing coaching for my team to achieve their goals as they progress in their careers.

I love being able to make such a wide impact for my team members and adjust my focus to our team’s biggest need is incredibly fulfilling for me. Solving problems of all sizes is always the best part of my day!

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I very much wanted to be a Pokémon trainer or a magical warrior with waterbending powers! But for a “real adult job” I wanted to be an artist or illustrator.

Did you set out to be a marketer once you got out of school? What about marketing appealed to you?

I started my career at WebFX as a Redesign Project Manager, which was a perfect starting role for me. In college, I had a lot of fun balancing my marketing degree with my fine arts degree, and I’ve always been interested in developing user experience strategies to drive performance.

The more “traditional” and creative aspects of marketing have always appealed to me in being able to challenge myself creatively to find that “spark” to drive both engagement and results.

What initially drew you to WebFX? Did something in particular stick out for you?

Both the supportive culture and the level of challenge provided here! I love learning new things, I like to have a challenge to work on, and the ongoing learning culture here was exactly what I was looking for.

I also like to incorporate a splash of fun and creativity into everything that I do, and WebFX does a fantastic job incorporating play into our work, where we can be truly creative in solving problems. The encouraging and supportive culture stuck out to me when I first started and is still one of my favorite parts of working here.

What’s something you love about working at WebFX?

Collaborating with other FXers! I get to work with some of the most brilliant, kind, and fun-loving humans I have ever met, and they push me to be the best version of myself. My heart could not be fuller, and it’s my greatest honor to be able to lead such a talented and fun-loving group of humans as well. It’s an era of my life I will cherish forever. It’s incredibly rewarding to get to be a part of the successes of our team, and seeing everyone leaning into solving complex challenges together.

How would you say you’ve grown personally and professionally while working at WebFX?

My first job out of college was here at WebFX, and coming up on eight years here, I’ve grown so much both as a person and in the professional realm. Everything in life is interconnected, and the person I’m becoming each day is influenced by my work — I’m loving the journey! I’ve grown to be so much more confident and sure of myself, I’ve found my passion points and fuel for my work, and I’ve grown my skills as both a strategic and leader.

I think the biggest change I’ve experienced when reflecting on my own growth, is that I’ve grown to truly find my purpose in why I do what I do, and it’s helping my team to find, have, and live out their own purpose by empowering them to lean into their areas of expertise to deliver strong outcomes for our clients that wouldn’t be possible to achieve without us as partners. Being able to make that impact has been incredibly fueling for my work.

What advice do you have for aspiring digital marketing professionals and those who think they want to get into marketing?

Never stop learning. This is an ever-changing industry (which is why we love it!). Dig into YouTube, podcasts, books etc., and start listening to and learning from some of the greats in our industry. Learning from others, especially those who lean into making content for marketers, can help you to figure out who or what you resonate with most, and that’ll help you identify what zone of our industry to head into. There are so many different zones of expertise to dive into, and that’s a great way to figure out which niche you want to explore.

BONUS: What’s your go-to comfort show/movie, and why?

Avatar the Last Airbender (the Nickelodeon animated show) is my favorite show of all time. I’m big into cartoons (Adventure Time, Steven Universe, etc.) I love how animation can push the bounds of reality even more than live-action can, and as an artist (in my spare time) my style is definitely a bit more “flat” and cartoony as well, so it gives me a lot of inspiration for my art!

natalie
Natalie De Stadler Specialty Services Coach

HOMETOWN: Cape Town, South Africa

SCHOOL: Varsity College & Vega School, SA

AREA OF STUDY: Corporate Communications

FIRST JOB: Marketing Manager for Formula D

Learn about Natalie’s career journey!

Tell us a bit about your role at WebFX. What do you do? What does a typical day in the life look like for you?

I’m the Specialty Services coach — this means I get to cheerlead and support the Conversion Rate Optimization team, as well as the Local SEO Strategists team. My day-to-day is focused on supporting, guiding, and encouraging my team to achieve their own personal best, ultimately reaching new heights for their clients and WebFX as a whole. I’m also the Cape Town Hub Ambassador — this means I also have the privilege of supporting the in-office FXers by ensuring a happy, healthy, and POSITIVE hub, filled with South African ‘gees’ (spirit), stunning events and celebrations, and delivering on the day-to-day needs within our space.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

As cliché as it may sound, I always wanted to work at a digital marketing agency. My mum was the head of communications for one of the top universities in South Africa, so I grew up in the communications space. Traditional agencies, however, can have a very competitive culture and be limited in their service offerings due to the many fields of expertise in digital marketing. WebFX not only showed me that a positive, uplifting, and encouraging space exists within the digital marketing realm, but also showed me how subject-matter experts from diverse backgrounds and specialties can collaborate, strategize, and execute together to feed into a joint, centralized goal.

Did you set out to be a marketer once you got out of school? What about marketing appealed to you?

Definitely. I often joke that my brain is strategic while my heart is creative, and digital marketing is where the two meet. It allows me to channel my creative, idea-driven passion into achieving well-defined strategic goals, all powered by some really phenomenal technology and data that only WebFX has to offer.

What initially drew you to WebFX? Did something in particular stick out for you?

Another FXer, Shane Jones, reached out to me because I’d recently completed an independent learning course on SEO on LinkedIn. He immediately commented that he loved my hunger for knowledge and growth. It was based on this desire to learn that he encouraged me to apply for a role with WebFX.

WebFX valuing growth, knowledge hunger, and ongoing improvements was such a positive for me, especially in the digital space because it is a constantly changing and evolving space. This value has stood true every single day since — I’m roughly three years into my journey with WebFX, and I’m still learning every single day.

What’s something you love about working at WebFX?

Again, a cliché answer — the people! WebFX does an exceptional job of recruiting, retaining, and honoring talent that is like-minded, share core values, and all aspire to embody WebFX’s POSITIVE code. This means we genuinely support one another in everything we do, professionally and personally. It means each individual carries their responsibilities with pride, excitement, and confidence to ensure success for each client, account, service, their team, and for WebFX.

How would you say you’ve grown personally and professionally while working at WebFX?

Everything I’ve learned at WebFX has seeped into my personal life (in the best way). A simple example is the focus and excitement to improve anything and everything by 1% each and every day. This has changed the way I approach my work — I’m constantly identifying and actively working on improving my delivery to my clients and my team. It’s also encouraged me to be 1% better at the gym, at hobbies, at habits, etc. I’ve grown more in my time with WebFX than I could have ever imagined, and my husband has also caught on, constantly reminding me of the 1%-betters in life.

I’ve also experienced rapid growth in my role at WebFX. The company has an incredible ability to recognize when you’ve mastered your current responsibilities and presents you with new challenges to keep you engaged and growing. This unique and motivating approach shows us just how closely the team monitors your performance, strengths, areas for development, and career goals. They work with you to position you so you’ll not only contribute as an asset to the company, but also find the most fulfillment in your daily work.

What advice do you have for aspiring digital marketing professionals and those who think they want to get into marketing?

Stay curious, stay knowledge-hungry, and stay tenacious. Digital marketing is always changing, with new skills and opportunities popping up every year. It’s a fun and rewarding space to work in, but you’ve got to stay sharp, think creatively, and stay determined to bring real value to your clients.

BONUS: What’s your go-to karaoke song?

Oh, this is a difficult question because it 100% depends on my mood!

On an average day, I love a Disney sing-along with “You’ll Be In My Heart” by Phil Collins, or “Hakuna Matata” from The Lion King.
On a dramatic day, I’d probably whip out “Bring Me to Life” by Evanescence or “Somebody to Love” by Queen. On a day that I’m jamming and happy, you’ll probably find me full-on performing any Meghan Trainor or Jason Derulo song in my car in traffic. My favorites include “Better when I’m Dancin’” (Meghan T.) and “You Can Do Anything” (Jason D.).

HOMETOWN: Carlisle, PA

SCHOOL: Shippensburg University

AREA OF STUDY: Marketing & Human Resources

FIRST JOB: Ice Cream Shop Associate

Learn about Nicole’s career journey!

Tell us a bit about your role at WebFX. What do you do? What does a typical day in the life look like for you?

I’m on our inbound sales team at WebFX. Any new prospect interested in services with WebFX will be directed to myself or another member of my team. A typical day is spent on the phone [~6 hours], then doing follow up emails or admin work the other ~2-3 hours. The meetings vary from brand-new discovery of a client’s business and goals, to sharing our tailored recommendations, all the way through the follow-up call and onboarding new clients to the FX Family.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a sports broadcaster all my life. I love sports and always wanted to be on ESPN.

Did you set out to be a marketer once you got out of school? What about marketing appealed to you?

I always knew I wanted to promote a company’s products or services. Digital marketing was becoming popular as I was graduating from high school, and my first thought was, “The internet is never going away, this is a great place for me to start out and really dive in.”

What initially drew you to WebFX? Did something in particular stick out for you?

I had friends in college rave about this company in Harrisburg for how fun their social media looked and how they kept winning Best Place to Work in the state. This piqued my interest and I began looking into it. I submitted an application at a career fair in college and the rest was history! Being on-campus for the interview process is what really drew me in. The culture, the atmosphere, and the people were different from any other place I had interviewed or worked at.

What’s something you love about working at WebFX?

I love my team! Not all sales organizations foster the culture that our team at WebFX does. It’s truly a family environment, and I’m thankful to be a part of it.

How would you say you’ve grown personally and professionally while working at WebFX?

I’ve learned many valuable life and work lessons through the people I work with and our ongoing learning resources. There’s always someone or something to lean into here at WebFX.

What advice do you have for aspiring digital marketing professionals and those who think they want to get into marketing?

This industry is always changing, so adaptability and an ongoing learning mindset is best for those considering digital marketing as a profession. It’s fun to be a part of, and the impact our industry drives for other businesses is unreal. That’s what makes digital marketing so fun and meaningful!

BONUS: What’s a non-marketing topic you could give a 30-minute presentation on with no preparation needed?

I love this question! An easy topic for me would be all things Australian Shepherds — their tendencies, quirks, behavior, training, etc. From the history of the breed, to having my own little Aussie at home, I could talk up a storm about this topic!

Development

isaac
Isaac Lehman Lead Tech Enablement Software Engineer

HOMETOWN: Annville, PA

SCHOOL: Grove City College

AREA OF STUDY: Physics, Computer Science, & Mathematics

FIRST JOB: Newspaper Delivery

Learn about Isaac’s career journey!

Tell us a bit about your role at WebFX. What do you do? What does a typical day in the life look like for you?

I work on our internal development team (Tech Enablement) as a lead software engineer. We develop all of our internal systems, from the software people log time with, to large scale data warehouses. I also have the privilege of working with our sales team as our company’s Salesforce admin. For a typical day, I spend about 60% writing code, 20% on support, and the rest in meetings or responding to people.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Nothing really stresses me out (weird, I know), so I always thought it would be cool to be an ER doctor.

Did you set out to be a marketer once you got out of school? What about marketing appealed to you?

No — as a physics major, I thought my most likely job would either be research or some sort of engineering. WebFX has allowed me to grow and do both, though, from engineering a variety of our internal systems to researching/implementing the latest in AI to keep us at the forefront of the industry.

What initially drew you to WebFX? Did something in particular stick out for you?

I actually stumbled across WebFX by accident — what would a physics major do at a marketing firm? — but really appreciated the company culture and the POSITIVE code. The people here are what really make WebFX a great place to work!

What’s something you love about working at WebFX?

As part of our internal development team, I love getting to work with our different departments and being able to pull back all that I’ve learned into tools and features that impact our company.

How would you say you’ve grown personally and professionally while working at WebFX?

Getting to work with such a great team of people has really helped me grow as a person and professionally. I’m always learning new things and have had a handful of mentors who’ve really taken the time to help me grow into who I am today.

What advice do you have for aspiring digital marketing professionals and those who think they want to get into marketing?

SEO and the marketing industry is always changing, so it’s never too late to learn. There’s always something new to challenge yourself with. From a development perspective, my best advice is to get out there and build something — make a personal blog, cooking website, etc. — and get your hands dirty to see if this is something you really enjoy.

BONUS: What’s a non-marketing topic you could give a 30-minute presentation on with no preparation needed?

Coffee — I really enjoy coffee and likely drink way too much each day! I think I have just about every way to make it, from an espresso machine to a mocha pot, and I’ve even tried my hand at roasting my own beans. When I retire someday, I hope to open a small café/restaurant.

Mary Shirey VP of US and Global Talent Acquisition

HOMETOWN: Bellefonte, PA

SCHOOL: Liberty University

AREA OF STUDY: Public Relations & Advertising, Fashion Merchandising

FIRST JOB: Family Apothecary Shop

Learn about Mary’s career journey!

Tell us a bit about your role at WebFX. What do you do? What does a typical day in the life look like for you?

I oversee our hiring processes and systems and work with the Talent Acquisition team to help recruit and interview potential FXers — both internationally and domestically. I sit in on a lot of interviews, work directly with all of our TAs, meet with them, regularly/train and mentor the team, seek to improve the candidate experience and our pipeline, work cross-functionally to determine hiring needs/roles we are hiring for, review applications, determine who to hire, and make job offers to candidates, etc.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A dentist (don’t ask me why because spit is my weird phobia). I just loved my dentist, and I’ve always been crazy about taking care of my teeth!

Did you set out to be a marketer once you got out of school? What about marketing appealed to you?

Yes — I mean, I was envisioning PR and mostly applied to PR jobs, but now I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. When I think about traditional PR now, I’m like, “Yeah, that’s not for me.”

What initially drew you to WebFX? Did something in particular stick out for you?

Looking back to starting all the way at the beginning of high school when I decided I wanted to do something along the lines of advertising/PR, I was always really attracted to the idea of working at an agency specifically. To have found one in my home state of Pennsylvania and to not have to move to a major city to find it (which is just not for me) and in fact only a few hours away from my small hometown was really exciting for me! I knew I wanted a location bigger than my hometown with a lot of fun things to do, but I also could never do the NYC/big city thing, so this area is perfect for me!

What’s something you love about working at WebFX?

The TA team is the absolute best, love working with them!

How would you say you’ve grown personally and professionally while working at WebFX?

Where do I even start? I attribute so much of who I am today to working here! The one thing that sticks out most is a growth mindset, being able to learn that not only for myself, but also to be able to instill that in my kids has been such a positive game changer for me and my family!

What advice do you have for aspiring digital marketing professionals and those who think they want to get into marketing?

There are so many incredible free resources out there to learn about the industry, as well as free certifications you can take. The industry changes so often, so keeping up with it will allow you to stay current and on top of trends to be the best marketer you can be and sets your experience above the rest!

BONUS: What’s a non-marketing topic you could give a 30-minute presentation on with no preparation needed?

Baking and Food Network baking shows!

AREA OF STUDY: Fashion Design & Merchandising

FIRST JOB: Kmart Sales Associate

Learn about Patty’s career journey!

Tell us a bit about your role at WebFX. What do you do? What does a typical day in the life look like for you?

Anything but typical! In human resources, our role is to create, be, and point individuals to the resources for our incredible humans here. We have a hand in everything from programs, to benefits, payroll to policy, and everything in between. But most of all, being a sounding board, an advocate, and a resource in each FXers arsenal!

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A barber or cosmetologist — and maybe I still will when I retire!

Did you set out to be a marketer once you got out of school? What about marketing appealed to you?

I had no idea that my career would take me into marketing, let alone human resources at a marketing and revenue agency. But now that I’m here, I realize that everything I studied, every post-grad step, every connection, every challenge, every learning moment, it all prepared me for this. I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. I love people and helping others be seen and heard, and I get to do that every day in an exciting and fast-paced industry that keeps us all on our toes. I couldn’t ask for anything else!

What initially drew you to WebFX? Did something in particular stick out for you?

The culture of the company just jumped off of the pages of the website. There was such enthusiasm on everyone’s faces in the pictures — nothing looked staged, and they were all candids of people who looked like they were genuinely happy to work with each other (and can confirm — this is so real and true!). I wanted to be a part of an organization that had so many similar interests and values like mine — service excellence, ongoing learning, investment into the team, growth opportunities.

What’s something you love about working at WebFX?

The people! Everyone is genuinely so kind, supportive, and enthusiastic. They’re passionate about what they do, obsessed with driving results for our clients, and making a difference in others’ lives. They’re competitive in the best ways, being better than yesterday, and bringing everyone along with them as they grow. They’re motivated, and without even consciously trying, motivate others around them. They’re selfless and service-minded, whether for clients down the road, or for impoverished communities across the globe. We’re just a company of the most truly wonderful humans.

How would you say you’ve grown personally and professionally while working at WebFX?

I’d be hard-pressed to think of a way that I haven’t grown while working at WebFX. I’ve been able to see what I’m capable of, I’ve faced challenges and relished in triumphs, and learned that both of those are important to growth. I’ve learned how to be realistically optimistic, and that being positive doesn’t mean ignoring/repelling negativity — it means accepting it, and having hope that it’s non-permanent. I’ve learned how to be a better listener and more effective communicator. I’ve learned about different cultures, and parts of the country and parts of the world. I’ve expanded every horizon that I have!

What advice do you have for aspiring digital marketing professionals and those who think they want to get into marketing?

Be curious! Read, listen to podcasts, follow thought leaders, pursue certifications, create some websites to try things out, throw spaghetti at the wall until it sticks, and when it doesn’t, try something different!

BONUS: What’s your go-to coffee order?

Iced chai latte, all day, every day!

Always say “yes” to new opportunities that push you outside your comfort zone! You never know who you’ll meet and the things you’ll learn along the way. I almost turned down the opportunity to write for my department in college, but I’m so glad I said yes because it’s ultimately how I got connected with WebFX and a position I love.

BONUS: What’s your go-to comfort show/movie, and why?

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation — a classic (not just during the holidays)! Or Survivor!
