You may be surprised to learn just how many productivity pitfalls exist in your workplace! From stress to distractions to slow computers, many small factors can add up to decrease the productivity of workers. With so much time and money lost each year due to these problems, it’s worth trying to make improvements that will boost productivity — even if it’s something as simple as a software upgrade, or a larger change like offering flex time.

Some studies show that American workers only average three productive days per week, which averages out to about 33 unproductive days per year. How can we cut down on these productivity pitfalls? This infographic offers tips on doing just that.

When there’s a lot of work to be done, some employees may try to “power through” without taking a break. However, as the infographic above shows, taking breaks is actually more beneficial to your productivity. Stopping to rest, take a walk, or surf the web for only a few minutes can leave you feeling refreshed and focused.

In fact, a scientific study showed that two groups of workers with the same task had very different levels of performance based on whether or not they took two short breaks. Surprisingly, multitasking is also debunked as a productivity booster. Who would have thought that only 2% of people can efficiently multitask?

Instead of trying to do multiple things at once, employees should focus on a single task at a time. By breaking big projects into smaller pieces, it will be easier to focus on them, and will add a sense of accomplishment when each piece is completed. As we showed in this infographic, there are many ways that you can boost your productivity at work.
